Song Request Guide
Please read the frequently asked questions below before making song requests. The main takeaway is that while I have the final say on all song requests, I always hope that you ask. Your request could be my next new favorite song to play! The only thing I love more than learning new music is the joy of delighting you and your guests with your favorite songs.
Song Request FAQ:
How many songs can I request? Generally songs last around 4 minutes, so I recommend requesting approximately 15 songs per hour of playing. You may request a few extra songs just in case time permits. Please note that this is different for wedding ceremony processions, and processional songs can be shortened or lengthened to accommodate your processional order and timing.
How do I know if my song will sound good on the violin? I may be biased, but I truly believe that any song can sound great on the violin. But if you want to have an idea of how I would perform your song, please check out my instagram videos for samples. Playing along with backing tracks also greatly enhances the overall interpretation of the song, and there are different types of backing tracks that can give songs a more classical twist or upbeat energy. Please set up a consultation call with me if you would like to learn more.
Do I request every song that you will play, or do you create a playlist based on my taste? Both! It truly depends on your preference. Some clients prefer to choose each and every song, while others prefer me to create their playlist for them. Either way, your playlist will be created with care and custom-designed specifically for your event. But I also hope you will at least choose specific songs for special moments such as a walk down the aisle, first dance, or special music number.
What songs can I request? Do you have a song list? You can find my song list at www.stephaniestrings.com/songs where songs are categorized by genre. I also enjoy taking song requests outside of the list, and from new-to-me genres and cultures, so please feel free to request anything! Whether on or off the list, I must approve all song requests in advance. Please let me know any "must have" songs before booking to know for sure whether or not I can perform them for your event.
Is there an additional charge for songs outside of the list? There may be an additional charge for certain requests outside of my song list. If so, I will let you know in advance.
Are there any songs I should not request? I always hope that you ask, but you may want to note that I only play family-friendly songs. I will most likely deny requests with messages that are explicit or derogatory.
How far in advance do you need me to send you my song requests? The earlier the better. At least 1-2 months in advance is ideal, but some songs require more or less time to learn. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have a late request. I might be able to learn it quickly, or I might even know the song, even if it is not on my list.
